Description

You’ve heard the buzz over people building their own AR-15 rifles. Here’s how they do it. They take one of any number of varieties of forged or billet 80% lowers, put it in a jig. A jig is basically a template for how the rest of the lower should be machined away. Then they use a mere drill press and one or two other minor tools everyone has in their garage to remove the rest of the material from the lower. They they assemble the parts into a working AR-15. This is that jig. It’s the first step to getting you building.

PLEASE NOTE: Tooling for this jig is optional. You’ll need to select whether you would like accompanying tooling with your jig.

How the Liberty 80% Jig Works

The Liberty 80 lower Jig takes a largely vertical approach to cutting your AR-15’s receiver for the lower parts kit. Using the provided drill bits, you’ll first remove a large portion of aluminum from inside the main fire control cavity by drilling various pilot holes. Quick and easy.

You’ll then use the end mill bits for light cutting and cleaning up the receiver’s walls before cutting a hole for the trigger. Lastly, reinforced drill bushings on one side plate ensure your hammer, trigger, and safety pin holes are drilled perfectly through the receiver. No measurements required for these. Then you’re done! The whole process takes about 1 to 2 hours for first-timers.

It’s All in The Bits

The secret to the Liberty Jig isn’t just the plates, templates, and guides. The included bits are made from quality high-speed steel (HSS). These are commercial-grade bits that can eat through forged or billet aluminum in seconds, making fabricating multiple receivers as quick as it is simple.

Drill Bits & End Mill Bits Included

To make cutting and drilling as quick and easy as possible, Elite Builder included HSS bits: High-speed steel bits designed specially for gunsmithing and machining aluminum firearm receivers. The tool kit includes:

  • (1) 5/8 Drill Bit – 6″
  • (1) 3/8 Drill Bit – 5”
  • (1) 5/32 Drill Bit – 3”
  • (1) 3/8 Short End Mill – 3”
  • (1) 3/8 Long End Mill – 4”
  • (1) 5/16 Short End Mill – 4”

What’s Included

  • (2) Steel Side plates
  • (3) Template plates for fabrication
  • (1) Set of drill bits (selectable option)
  • (1) Set of end mill bits (selectable option)

What’s Required

  • Drill Press
  • Drilling Vise
  • Machining Oil
  • Eye Protection
  • Ear Protection

With your receiver fabricated, you can install a lower parts kit and buttstock or brace, throw on an upper receiver of your choice, and hit the range in one day.

  1. Al McRoberts –

    Lower jig

I’m not finished using for the first time but it is a very nice piece.

  2. Chris Nelsen –

    Good basic jig

My first 80% lower endeavor. Used this jig to reverse engineer the dimensions for an AR-9 lower to mill out on my small CNC mill. I could not find a print for an AR-9 anywhere. It is not exactly like an AR-15, so can’t use that print (that can be found all over the net). It makes a great part holder for the CNC with a couple of modifications.

  3. Zach –

    It's good for the money.

I didn’t buy the tooling because I work in machining, and thought had the tools on hand.I had to grind a little bit off at the rear pin (left side) because it was hitting there before clamping the sides of the lower – and that was only an issue with that particular lower. The top plates are wider than the side plates when bolted together. The bottom isn’t drilled and tapped for the trigger template, so you’ll need a long 5/16 end mill for that – the one tool I didn’t have. There’s no support at the bottom of the jig. When clamped down in a Bridgeport with 1.5″ tall jaws, the top of the side plates open up and the lower moves around a little. Thankfully I had 3″ tall jaws handy. All that said, for the price, it’s an alright jig. I could have made one myself, but at this price point, I’d rather spend the money on the jig than do the work making one.

  4. Jon Cutshall –

Very good response and just as advertized.

Top rate. Products were good, delivered timely and minor problem was fixed quickly.

  5. Demetrios Pantages –

    Great Jig! Worked as intended!

Well designed! I pray God blesses you all!

  6. Kenny Johnson –

    OK

Overall, the jig is ok. Only downside I saw other than the lack of instructions was 5/8″ holes are a bit difficult to do rather than the other jig I bought with 6 3/8″ holes. Top plates could use recessed holes and machined to be flush with the side plates. My safety holes are at an angle as I didn’t see the plate sticking out beyond the side plates. Bought the Elite jig which is better but still had to buy another lower as mine is borderline unusable. Not happy but it is what it is.

  7. Margery A Travis –

    No instructions

Quality of jig is excellent, but lacked instructions of sequence of milling, depths, etc. Haven’t seen link to video, or actual instructions.

  8. Malcolm Ayres –

    Makes it very easy

Just take your time and be careful and you’ll be fine

  9. Craig Wilson –

    Liberty 80% Lower

Jig works very good, just take your time for a quality lower, thanks

  10. Dr Thomas R Miller –

    Excellent Product !

I had to wait for spacers to set the drillbits at the proper dimensions. I did assemble it, it’s absolutely beautiful! For GUY that works with his hands for many years I so appreciate polished hardware 🙂 I can’t wait to use it! It’s really at work work! And the fact that it’s compatible with my two favorite calibers, 5.56 and 9 mm makes it the perfect piece for me! Thanks, Tom Miller
